GREENWOOD COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – Seven earthquakes were recorded early Saturday morning in one Upstate county.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, seven earthquakes ranging from 1.5 magnitude – 3 magnitude were recorded in Greenwood County between 12:17 a.m. and 3:59 a.m. Saturday.

The two strongest earthquakes, recorded at 2.9 magnitude and 3 magnitude were detected 3 kilometers north of Coronaca, near the Saluda River and were roughly six minutes apart.

According to an earthquake guide produced by the South Carolina Department of Emergency Management, people living in the area may have felt some shaking from the quakes.

They may have caused some shifting of unsecured objects or furniture, but should not have resulted in any major damage.

A 2.5 magnitude earthquake was also recorded 5 kilometers northwest of Coronaca, also near the Saluda River, and a 1.5 magnitude quake was detected 1 kilometer east of Coronaca, near S.C. Highway 221.

You can view details from each of the earthquakes on the USGS website.
