Phantom of the Opera return and new productions aim to turn around loss

Opera Australia will rely on its third run of Phantom of the Opera in four years, a soprano superstar’s homecoming, and a Henry Lawson story for financial recovery in 2026.

The 70th anniversary season for Australia’s largest performing arts company will be the first post-COVID season not affected by the pandemic, says acting chief executive Simon Militano, who is tasked with turning around the $10.1 million operating loss posted by OA in 2024.
