A trailer and release date for a Wilmington-shot series were announced on Thursday, Aug. 7.

“The Runarounds” — about a young band with an infectiously jangly sound trying to make it big — is set to hit the Amazon Prime Video streaming service on Sept. 1.

Show creator Jonas Pate, who lives in Wilmington and whose daughter, Lilah Pate, is one of the stars of “The Runarounds,” has a proven track record with his Netflix mega-smash “Outer Banks,” which will air its fifth and final season in 2026.

In the trailer, there are scenes from a show in front of the Old Wilmington City Market, shots at New Hanover High School and even a few glimpses at a vehicle that looks similar to those for the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office.

“The Runarounds” filmed in the area in 2024. Some of the locations shot include Gelarto ice cream shop on the Wilmington Riverwalk and on the Riverwalk itself near the Wilmington Visitor Center, St. Mary’s Catholic School, a private home on South Fourth Street downtown and the Forest Hills neighborhood.

The Runarounds is comprised of Axel Ellis, Jesse Golliher, William Lipton of “General Hospital,” Zendé Murdock and Jeremy Yun. Other cast members are newcomer Kelley Pereira; Ray Hernandez (“The Suicide Squad”); Dani Deetté (“Ozark”); and Lindsey Rubino (“The Hunting Wives”).

It’ll mark the second Amazon Prime Video show to have new episodes released in 2025 from Wilmington. Some episodes of the third and final season of “The Summer I Turned Pretty” have been put on the service this summer, with the entire season set to be released by mid-September.
